About Us

Many websites and projects in South Africa makes provision for experienced birders and will discuss the rarer birds in South Africa. These web pages come into being after realising that there are no web pages that makes provision for the literally thousands of birders who are interest in the birds in their gardens. It is hoped that these pages will now fill this gap and that a community will be created of people passionate about the birds in their gardens and that in time their interest will expand to include the wonderful diversity of birds that we have in South Africa and even beyond our borders.

Who are we?

Ernst Retief : I have been birding since school days and am passionate about birds. I am a keen bird watcher, qualified ringer of birds and have contributed to numerous projects as for instance BIRP, PCC, NERCS to name a few. I also have a weekly radio talk about birds on a local radion station in the Pretoria area called Radio Rippel 90.5 (06:40 on Tuesday mornings). I am also a proud member of Birdlife Northern-Gauteng/ Gauteng-Noord ( http://www.birding.co.za/blng ) and together with a wonderful committee and active members manage the affairs of the club.

Natasja Retief : I have been birding for the last 16 years. Although I love to see new birds in remote areas of the country I really enjoy to watch the birds in our garden.
